Battle Rounds have started on The Voice, and two of Team Kelly’s strongest singers went up against each other.
Clarkson eventually chose Cody Ray to remain on her team.
Fans were outraged that she didn’t keep fan-favorite and frontrunner SandyRedd.
Competition on The Voice is getting heated. After the Blind Auditions, this season’s coaches—Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton—have all filled out their teams, and the Battle Rounds have officially started.
During the Battle Rounds, each coach will choose two artists from their team to perform together. After the face-off, the coach will choose the winning singer who will get to move on to the next round of the competition. The other three coaches then have a chance to steal the “losing” act, but if the singer isn’t chosen, he or she will be sent home.
Cody Ray and SandyRedd from Team Kelly performed a duet of “Cry to Me” by Solomon Burke, and after their performance, both received rave reviews from the coaches.

“I’m excited because I get to try to pick one of you up,” Levine said, while Hudson commented that the duo was “beyond amazing.”
But when it came time to choose a winner, Clarkson said the decision was going to be difficult. “I’m so torn. This is stressful. I need food. This is how I handle my emotions,” Clarkson joked.
Clarkson compared Cody Ray to singer Chris Stapleton, saying that his voice was “so smooth. It’s gorgeous.” Clarkson also told SandyRedd that she was “literally one of the best singers I’ve ever heard in my life.”
In the end, Clarkson made a surprising choice, as she chose to keep Cody Ray on her team over fan-favorite SandyRedd. And the fans were not shy about telling Clarkson how they felt about her decision.
But viewers shouldn’t be too upset—after Clarkson let SandyRedd go from her team, the remaining coaches instantly hit their buttons to try to steal her for themselves. In fact, Levine hit his buttons about two or three times in excitement. In the end, SandyRedd chose to join Team Jennifer.
