She opened up about it in her new memoir, The Half of It. Madison Beer revealed that she contemplated suicide after her nudes were leaked without her consent. According to an excerpt published by People Magazine from her upcoming memoir The Half of It, Beer was only 16 when this happened.
Beer, now 24, recalls how a boy she had a crush on leaked nude videos she had sent to him. On the Call Her Daddy podcast, Beer called the leak “traumatizing.”
“The most difficult part was knowing in my bones that it wasn’t me that was at fault – that it was the boy who betrayed my trust that was at fault,” Beer said in the podcast appearance. “But that was also me learning very quickly that men and women get treated very differently.”
At the same time, she was splitting with her record label and manager. The two events were overwhelming to Beer, who wrote in her memoir about contemplating jumping off her balcony before her brother found her.
Once, on a particularly heavy day, I climbed over the edge of my balcony in LA and stood there, a million thoughts running through my head as I stared down at the ground, my eyes going in and out of focus,” Beer wrote. “My little brother found me and screamed for my parents.”
Beer’s memoir, The Half of It, will be released on April 25. She dedicated the book to her mother, father, and brother – and to “the Younger Madison I’m writing about – thank you for getting me here. I hope I’ve made you proud.”
