JAKARTA – Tennis star Naomi Osaka appears on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine’s swimwear issue.
In addition to excelling in the sport she does, this 23-year-old woman has also become a fashion icon.
By appearing on the cover of a famous magazine’s swimsuit issue, she became the first person of color to do so.
The four-time Grand Slam tournament winner, who will represent Japan at the Olympics in Tokyo, appeared on the cover of the magazine wearing a black asymmetrical one-piece swimsuit with see-through panels, complemented by scalloped hoop earrings.
“There’s no doubt that Naomi is one of the best athletes in the world, and the cover position is clear,” said Sports Illustrated editor-in-chief MJ Day.
“She spent her formative years winning titles and heading to the Olympics. But we celebrate Naomi for her passion, strength and power that is geared towards consistently breaking down barriers in terms of equality, social justice and mental health.”

Legendary tennis star Maria Sharapova is among those who have posed for the issue.

Sharapova was coming off a win at Wimbledon in 2004. She went on to win the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008 and the French Open in 20
