VIKINGS star Katheryn Winnick has detailed some of the tough filming conditions on the Vancouver locations for the first season of her new hit series, Big Sky. The first season of ABC’s ongoing crime drama Big Sky only just finished filming last month, with new episodes set to hit the Star portal on Disney+ in the coming weeks. Fresh from her long stint on the series in Canada, series lead and former Vikings star Katheryn Winnick has opened up about her experiences on set.
Filming initially began in August 2020, following considerable delays amid the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Production was originally meant to take place in Albuquerque and Las Vegas, but moved to Vancouver in the wake of COVID restrictions. During her appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Winnick touched on the arduous filming process for the much delayed new series.
She revealed: “I was there for a good nine months, up in Canada. The new mystery series has managed an impressive turnaround as filming only just concluded on April 24. Winnick stars as ex-cop Jenny Hoyt, a freelance investigator who teams with Cassie Dewell (Kylie Bunbury) when two teenage girls go missing in Montana.
The first half of season one aired from November-January, with the two detectives taking on a new case when the series started up again in April. Winnick told the two hosts: “It was definitely a challenge, but Vancouver’s beautiful. The sweeping backdrops of British Columbia take the place of Big Sky’s Montana setting. Thankfully, Winnick is no stranger to long stays for TV film shoots, as much of her previous series, Vikings, was shot in Ireland.
The star revealed that she also flew her family out to stay with her for the duration of Big Sky’s filming schedule for season one.While the Canadian star was thrilled to spend more time with them during the pandemic, she also got up to some rigorous activities during her down time. Winnick explained: “My brother, who is an Afghanistan veteran, he took us on this hike.
