Katheryn Winnick is kicking ass — literally. As Lagertha on The History Channel’s hit show, Vikings, she’s a warrior and reigning queen of Denmark. She’s also about to burn up the silver screen alongside Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba in this summer’s blockbuster, The Dark Tower, opening August 4th. We took a moment to ask the fierce femme how she keeps her beauty game strong while taking Hollywood by storm.
skin is so fair and beautiful! What are some of your go-to skincare products? Are you careful about sun protection? Katheryn Winnick: Thank you for the compliment! I grew up drinking lots of water, and I’m extremely disciplined about sunscreen every single day. My favorite is Chantecaille SPF 50. I’m also a firm believer in
washing, exfoliating, and steaming my face every night when I bathe.
I’m all about a good travel beauty hack: my mother taught me to use olive oil to remove makeup; you can just call room service and have them deliver a side of it. When it comes to diet, I think balance is key. I’ve been gluten-free for 10 years, but I also believe a glass of red wine at the end of the night doesn’t hurt. As far as fitness, I grew up very active; I fell in love with Tae Kwon Do at the age of 7.
Now, I’m a 3rd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and 2nd-degree black belt in karate. Is there a particular beauty look of one of your characters that really stands out Definitely Lagertha’s braids. Our hair and makeup team was just nominated for a 2017 Emmy for their work on Vikings. I was able to collaborate with the team on the look of the character, so, I’m really proud. The team is amazing!: I just discovered this new app, Soothe. It’s great – they come to your house and give you a massage! Also, a good girls night always helps me recharge.
What top three beauty products could you not live without? La Mer, The Moisturizing Soft Lotion – for sure. Also, Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour cream; it’s great for travel. Eminence’s Vitamin C serum.
